GOING the right way - $8.95 per page

I closed my eyes. It was early morning and the airplane just took off. I was going on another fantastic vacation with my family. It was my first trip to the West Coast. It was planned to be a ski trip, but for me it was more than just that. It was another adventure, something new that would leave joyful memories about my time in the United States of America.

We landed in Portland, Oregon, rented a car, and headed toward Mount Hood. It was marvelous to observe how the weather and nature was changed during our drive to the mountain. Gradually the snow appeared. We even had to put tire chains on the car. Giant and mighty pine trees towered over the road. We entered a winter wonderland. The landscape was impressive. I felt as if I were transported back in time to my childhood, to the fairy tales my mom read to me. During our trip we visited two mountains:  Mount Hood and Mount Bachelor. The second one located south of the first one. For this reason, the scenery was different too, the appearance varied. If Mount Hood was mightier, Mount Bachelor was more graceful. Safe schools are schools that ensure that they are taking all safety measures in according to requirements of the Schools Commission. In order to ensure safety in school the schools need to build capacity that will support safety. The schools also have to communicate to students clear and direct messages about what is acceptable and what is not acceptable in school, in case of students breaking the school regulations then the school administration is supposed to make sure that the student adheres to the rules, and the rules are supposed to be enforced consistently by the school authorities. Emphasis on student responsibilities is important. In accountability it is important also that the students should be taught critical thinking techniques to enable the students to consider carefully their decisions. (more…)

The other day our teacher at the technical writing class announced, “Today we are going to talk about using E-Mail as an excellent means of communication”. I thought ‘here it comes, at last I will know more about this’. Like many people in India, I was a latecomer to E-Mail, that too only when it was forced upon me. My father was ill after a stroke and I had to often correspond with my sister in the United States. I noticed that her E-Mails always began with ‘Sunder’. Never was it ‘Dear Sunder’. Her replies to my long and meandering E-Mails were often short and sometimes sounded even curt. I was concerned a bit in the beginning. I still am, although I have got used to it a little. Like every communication tool E-Mail came armed with a danger to ruin even our most intimate relationships forever. (more…)

The UK leisure industry represents businesses as diverse as tour operators and football clubs and is estimated to be worth about ?1.7 billion a week. An analysis of household spending during 2003 revealed that the proportion of disposable income spent on leisure activities is almost identical in terms of proportions of income across diverse socio-economic groups, regardless of whether individuals are in employment or unemployed. In generic terms, individuals will spend 13.5% of their total income on recreation and culture, they will spend 14.3% of their total income on transport and they will spend 9.8% of their total income on restaurants and hotels. Philosophy had been studied for countless centuries by great people, wise men, and common people. It is not because they have to construct what philosophy is and its importance to humanity and the world as a whole, but to make its existence concrete and become usable to where it is ought to be used. The concept of philosophy is abstract and even before the existence of the humanity and the world, it was already there. Its idea was laid down in words through time to be used by people for the coming ages. But its usefulness and significance still depends how we absorb and utilize them.

The word “Philosophy” itself means “love of wisdom” (Thomas). It came from Greek words “Philo” (love) and “Sophia” (wisdom). Therefore, it means devotion to know. Philosophy deals with different aspects and some of these significant concerns are metaphysics, epistemology, ethics, politics, and aesthetics (Thomas; Thomas). Metaphysics studies the theory of reality, epistemology studies the theory of knowledge, and ethics studies the theory of moral values (Thomas). (more…)
