Essay on Gender Roles

Rosario and Currah would both concur that homosexuality is not always congruent to transsexuality. Rosario would argue that the world of psychiatry has made the atrocious mistake of viewing transsexuals as those who are plagued with Gender Identity Disorder. (pg. 36 Rosario) Rosario had a patient who was deemed a long- term issue, due to her “psychoses” and previous suicide attempts. Patient “B” as she was titled had a desire to become a gay man. When finally identifying the issue and having the ability to talk about the identity in which she wished to pursue her hallucinations and suicide attempts seized. However, once patient “B” was placed in a day clinic and choose to voice that she wanted to become a gay man, a psychiatrist believed that this new found communication was hindering her transition from involuntary psychiatric confinement to an independent, happy life. (pg. 36) Thus, illustrating the ignorance of the psychiatrist and a majority of the psychiatric community.

Many in the psychiatric community view gender only by the view of the genitals. Gender is thus predisposed and can only fall under terms of biology and not innate feelings or desires. It is this mentality that has caused such a hindrance for a great deal of transvestites and transsexuals. The psychiatrist viewed patient “B” as a female heterosexual transsexual.” Rosario mocks the notion of patient “B” being labeled a heterosexual transsexual. The problem lies in not being able to divorce one’s biological identify from their inherit desires of the sex they wish to portray and become. Patriotism Freedom Sacrifice Essay

Patriotism is defined by Merriam Webster’s dictionary as the act of loving one’s country. There is no discrepancy with this definition; it is the interpretation of what loving one’s country means that causes most controversy. There are two conflicting concepts arising out of the application of this principle. Some feel that loving one’s country involves a citizen having a duty to make an independent, reasoned judgment of whether the actions of his own government are in the best interest of his country while others, including myself, believe that the act of loving one’s country entails standing behind the decisions of our elected officials especially during times of war.
Most everyone would agree that decisions are better made by those who are well informed. The “average” citizen does not and should not have access to the information and knowledge our nation’s leaders do giving them an ability to make sound, rational decisions that are truly in the best interest of the American people. Blacks and the Media Essay

Black news mediums are important not only to the Black community, but to all races and ethnicities. They are important because they allow a better understanding of a great culture that has not only existed since the beginning of time, but has also built the United States into what it is today. They also allow Blacks to address issues in the Black community, properly educate individuals on Black culture and history, and provide Blacks with something that they can relate to and call their own.

Throughout history news mediums have attempted to properly discuss and educate the world on Black culture and Black history, however, these mediums have failed miserably. Not only do most news mediums erroneously portray Blacks as being unintelligent, lazy, chicken-eaters, they also only scratch the surface of the rich culture that constitutes not only Black history, but American history. The Debate Over Affirmative Action Essay

Life, Liberty, and the Pursuit of Happiness

America has always been known for its many freedoms: religion, speech, press, to bear arms, and the right to a fair and speedy trial.  Thomas Jefferson said in the Declaration of Independence, “We hold these truths to be self-evident that all men are created equal, that they are endowed by their Creator with certain unalienable rights, that among these are life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness”.  America is world-renowned for this philosophy and yet there are still groups of people who feel discriminated against.  In today’s society, the greatest dilemma we face is with sexual orientation.

At a park bench, two men are kissing.  At a nearby coffee shop, two women are holding hands.  Why do people stare and look down upon these couples, but not on a man and woman couple?  The issue of gay rights has always been a matter of discussion in America and probably always will be.  The site selection took place in Los Angeles, a city of great diversity.  We welcome different races and religions with open arms and the state of California has always been Democratic with the majority of the people living there liberals. If I conducted a survey that asked whether money was still effective as a workplace motivator, I would get more “yes” answers than “no” answers.
