What Makes a Motivational Speech
A motivational speech is different from a regular speech or presentation. While a sales presentation or a scientific report are kinds of speech that aim just to inform its audiences on a certain topic by providing raw data, motivational speeches are closer to the term of a persuasive speech, in which the speaker attempts to persuade the audience to form a certain point of view, or take certain action towards the topical issue. Since speaking in public may seem as a difficult and a nervous task for some, it is important to understand that, just as any other speech, a motivational speech requires certain steps and preparations. It would be reasonable for the speaker to write an outline that would allow to form the first draft of the speech. In the speech, it is important to form a solid thesis in order to connect the audience with the main idea. The speaker should also remain laconic, as large and complex sentences may lose the audience’s attention. While a speech is a one-way type of conversation, the author would benefit from imagining that the audience is participating in active conversation – to predict the questions and arguments that would arise and answer them accordingly. The writer should remember that he/she it not trying to merely inform about a certain issue, but to raise the listeners’ motivation to do something about it. It would be reasonable to remind the audience about both its own importance and the importance of the task.
